2017 Itinerary for a wildlife holiday.
Pick up from local port or airport and home to Talroch to settle in and enjoy an early supper.
A day to explore the highest part of Brittany in the Monts d'Arree, a place of moorland and granite and part of the rock formation of the amorican massif formed more than 600 million years ago and older than the Alps. A fantastic place for wildflowers and moorland birds. Then on to the Venec peat bogs, and lac de St.Michel, land of the only colony of Beaver in Brittany, discover this lowlying habitat with its great array of birds and flowers, butterflies and dragonflies and search for signs of the resident Beavers.
Finally on to Heulgoat where we will find amazing rock formations deep in the valleys and wonderful forest habitat.
A Birdwatchers favourite of a visit to the Grande Briere the 2nd largest marshland in France next to that of the Camargue. It has a rich diversity of birds, butterflies and mammals. Visit the bird reserve and then take a punted barge through the marshes with commentary from a local guide. Marsh Harriers, Black kites, White storks, Spoonbills, Great white egrets, Cattle egrets, Purple herons, Whiskered terns, Bluethroats and many other species may be seen.
A relaxing morning around the woodlands and streams of Talroch and local natural reserves watching for butterflies, birds, reptiles & amphibians and a myriad of insects, many different plants, flowers and fungi all waiting to be discovered in a really wild woodland. A free afternoon to explore the local area.
Early start and off to the Island of Houat off of the Quiberon peninsula, after a 45 minute boat trip we land on a small island with many treasures to explore and short coastal walks. A truly beautiful Island with an abundance of wildflowers, rock pools to investigate, birds, dragonflies, butterflies and lizards.
Discover the Etang des Salles and the rich variety of flora & fauna at this magical place in the midst of the forest de Quénécan. There are many species of Birds, Butterflies, Dragonflies and Damselflies and we will be able to see several species on our walk through the woods and at the waters edge. If we are very lucky we may hear the splash of an otter and at the very least find some field signs of their presence. Then on to the Gorges de Doualas an amazing heathland with views over the forests of Quénécan.
A Bird watching trip to the eastern coast of the Golfe du Morbihan we would hope to discover around 40 species of birds on this trip and see some lovely coastal habitat. Starting at St.Armel and walking around the salt pans, a working saline which attracts many species of waders and passerines. We will then make our way to the Marais de Duer and watch over lagoons from 2 hides situated on the coastal path. After finding a suitable place for our picnic we will drive down to the Chateau de Suscinio and its lovely sand dunes and pebble beach, as well as salt lakes and extensive marshlands which attract many interesting birds including, Spoonbills and Bluethroats and an occasional Glossy Ibis.
Final day and free morning around Talroch and discussions on the weeks adventures, then off to port or airport embarking for home.
